Just as good as the first book. A great read, especially for people who like a certain strategically aspect of the story because in addition to much combat action Daniel spends a lot of time preparing for it through designing magical items based on modern principals and dealing with both its success and failures. The power level might be a little bit of the top for some, but considering the opponents Daniel faces and the fact that Daniel tends to get into serious trouble through logical human errors he in no way wins automatically. Some people might not like the rather unlikely relationship between Daniel and various women (which can be explained to some extent because most are not human (anymore)), and I am not entirely sure what I think of that aspect either. It is a bit women unfriendly, and while Daniel is well aware of it, he dismisses it a bit easily. It is also not really necessary for the story. Still, not a game breaker for me and I am looking forward to the third part.

Black Coven Daniel Black Book 2 eBook E William Brown Reviews

I waited eagerly for this second book. I even re-read the first book in preparation. I was not disappointed! Well, I was disappointed that I finished it in just one afternoon and now I'll have to wait for the next one, but that's hardly the authors fault.

I feel like everything that made the first book great was present. Even better, everything is evolving, and Daniel isn't a one man army anymore. Well he is, but he's surrounded by good people who can also deliver punishment to the overwhelming enemy forces.

I'll just leave off by mentioning that there are some sweet uses of transformation magic in this book. The tactical advantages of larger breasts, err, I mean enhanced strength and claws, cannot be overstated.
I liked the story and it's very interesting as well as has a good mix of building/ crafting and action, with very few grammar or word errors, but there is one serious problem. The usual cliche betrayal comes up in the story and the protagonist is rightly enraged/ hurt. The story then proceeds to explain that the whole thing was a compulsion and the protagonist beats himself up for walking away enraged and trying to cope with it. Seriously? That's the best you could come up with? He beats himself up for being enraged at a betrayal that had happened to him before, and he has no reason to suspect foul play, but still gets mad at himself for suspecting a repeat of what happened at the beginning of the story. Its literally a situation where a character suddenly turns into the author's puppet. That is one thing that I hate in a story. Use logic, if you haven't had a similar experience ever in your life, go read a story with a good example (granted there aren't that many of them). Overall liked the story aside from that one rant-worthy part of it.
This book was a definite upgrade in most ways from the first. The characters are more fleshed out, the world they are in is given more background, and we begin to see how Daniel is going to fit into the society that already exists. I know that I am going to catch some flak from some people for saying this part but, I am a little saddened that the use of sex in this book is just about gone compared to the first. There is still SOME sex, but it all happens off screen, and i find myself a little disappointed. While not necessary to the story, it's hard to find a book that does a good job of balancing sex, and story, and I thought book one did that.

That out of the way, I cannot express how much fun I had reading this book. We get to see Daniel try and integrate himself into the existing power structure in his new location, and I had a blast seeing him take what he new of modern warfare, and using magic to convert it into a medieval world. There will be some who will say that Daniel becomes too powerful in this book but, with the types of enemies he is facing, he never felt completely unstoppable to me. More importantly than that though, is that the other supporting characters get a bigger role to play, and help balance out the story. Thankfully no matter how strong Daniel or his followers get, there is always a sense of hopelessness and tension that seems to hang around, which keeps things moving.

Bottom line is this. If you liked the first book, or are a fan of this genre, you will like this book. I do hope that there is a bit of a return to form when it comes to the sexplay in book 3, but either way I will be eagerly awaiting each installment.
I believe that this book might have been better than the first book. Now the bad part - the wait for the next book. Really a good reading experience no issue with edit, or grammar or anything to pull you out of the story. Exceptional for a new author - a lot of work put into writing process to create such a good product! Definitely worth time and price to read. Especially if read the first book and liked the writing. It is written for I was going to say adults but mature readers works better since sex is a part of the storyline. Sex is not the focus but it is a part of story and not shied away from. Overall I will wait patiently for the next book and likely read the first book and this one again if I am short on new reading material. I can't give a higher mark then saying worth reading again or I have already read again.
