Eventually, the group finds a settlement in the "Oasis" near the ocean and decides to stay for awhile. Once, this Oasis was a resort hotel - a wonderful place for a vacation. Now, not so much....

A lot of sadness in this story along with some interesting scenes including a duel! The ending leaves the reader with a hope for the future and still searching for the Promised Land. Hold onto your faith in this one...

Very good story. We follow Jess and her friends as they try getting to the promised land in a world that has been devastated by the plagues. I went thru a range of emotions from sadness, anger, happiness to shock. I recommend this book
I was privileged to read this book in the beta stage and help the author with this story. I absolutely loved this book as I did the first, Broken Earth. It was a quick and enjoyable read. At times I did find myself questioning things that happened because it was based off of the first book. I didn't see much revisiting of the first book. I enjoyed joining Jess and the crew with their journey in search of the "Promised Land."

At times the book was slow paced but other parts of the book picked up for this. Shattered Hearts picks up about halfway through the book, but the tension building up took some time. With that said, if there is another book within the series, I'll definitely be checking it out.
Shattered Hearts was a quick read for me after finishing Broken Earth. In this book, the story of Jess continues. Now married to Ian and pregnant, Jess and her group continue to search for The Promised Land. Hoping to find their way before the baby arrives, they journey through the endless cemeteries in search of the place they hope to call home.
As the quest marches on, many character flaws are brought to light. You find yourself despising characters you once liked. I think this really added to the depth of the book. After all, you can’t like everyone. Mollie quickly became my favorite with her quick wit and comical responses. Although the first half of the book recapped much of what the Broken Earth had already described, it was a necessary if the author wants each book to be a stand alone read. After the story picked up the pace, I finished it quickly. Some shocking scenarios always keep the reader on their toes.
With the end of the story, I’m assuming their will be a third book, but do hope this will wrap up into a trilogy. Since the second book rehashed so much of the first book, I’m totally ready to “see” this Promised Land.

Broken Earth was a quick and easy read. Shattered Hearts followed along the same lines. It was a simple read, though I found myself confused a lot at the beginning because there wasn't a lot of revisiting what happened in the first book. I had to check back with Broken Earth to make sure I wasn't missing something. Still, I enjoyed joining Jess and her family on their journey in search of the "Promised Land."

Mollie, our very own blind Irish "witch" was hilarious as ever, her and little Lucie the comic relief in a relatively dark world. There are moments were I couldn't believe what was happening (shock is putting it mildly), but for the most part, what happened was expected. I will say, though, I did not like Ian in this book (my reasons are justified). He was...let's just say I lost respect for him.

The only reason why I gave this three stars instead of four, was because of the frequent punctuation mishaps (stickler for grammar), and the slow pacing. It picks up about halfway through the book, but the build-up was a little slow for my tastes. With that said, if there is another book in the series, which is what I'm assuming, I'll definitely be checking it out.
Book 2 of the series had me tied in knots throughout the story. Every chapter brought on intense feelings with each character. I was so drawn in, I read it in one sitting. 5/5 stars. Love this series!
I enjoyed following Jess, Ian, Mollie and Lucie as they continue their journey toward the promised land. Hope there will be another book in this series.
