The Weight of a Mass A Tale of Faith Josephine Nobisso Katalin Szegedi 9780940112094 Books
I first found this book a few years ago on our communal book shelf in college (one of my roommates had received it as a gift when she came into the Church our sophomore year). Intrigued, I sat down to read it since it I had a few minutes and it wad short. 20 minutes later another of my roommates came home to find me sitting on the couch crying as I finished the last few pages (I am not a cryer, it was weird). This book is stunning in both it's message and illustration! It is absolutely touching, and even more remarkable when I read it was based off a true story. It gently and beautifully reveals the message of how priceless the Mass is in a way both children and adults can appreciate (I'm still not a cryer and I still cry when I read it). It's now our family's go-to gift for celebrating Sacraments regardless of the . . . Sacramentee?'s age.Tags : The Weight of a Mass: A Tale of Faith [Josephine Nobisso, Katalin Szegedi] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. <div>When a poor devout widow begs for a scrap of bread from a rich faithless baker, she promises to participate in the king’s wedding mass as payment for the baker’s generosity. The Weight of a Mass A Tale of Faith Josephine Nobisso Katalin Szegedi 9780940112094 Books Reviews
This was a very fun and creative story and it has given us lots of opportunity to talk about the importance of the Mass with our children. We haven't explored in great detail the information inside the front and back covers yet, but I look forward to being able to talk to my children about that as they get older and are more able to understand the connections.
Great first communion book!
This is a wonderful book for all ages and delightful illustrations! I enjoy this book very much and it can be read to everyone and to yourself all of the time.
Wonderful story with beautiful illustrations. I love how the author included about how the story was based on a true event that brought a priest's family back to the Church and led to him becoming a priest.
This book was given to my children 15 years ago and our all time favorite. That is saying a lot because we have tons of books!
We also have used to read to the kids we teach on sunday. They love the story and illustrations.
It says in a powerful and simple manner, how important the Mass is to Catholics.
Beautiful illustrations along with a miraculous story that reminds us all of the supernatural reality behind the mass and Eucharist. An excellent story for young children. Not modernized junk.
I definitely like this book; I bought it as a gift for my godson and will purchase it again when my one-year-old gets older. It is about a beggar widow who goes into a fancy bakery, asks for a crust of bread, and then refuses. She then suggests that she offer up a mass for the baker in exchange for the bread. The baker writes "one mass" on a slip of paper, puts it on one side of a scale, and then finds that nothing can even begin to move the scale.
I really liked the ending - the widow admits to the baker's son that she, too, undervalued the mass because she bargained with it for a crust of bread and not more.
I think this book will provoke great discussion, and it has gorgeous illustrations. I give it four stars instead of five because I think the text itself could be a little clearer in place.
